Anniversaries. More specifically, my parents’ anniversaries. Which keep happening on this date over and over. I’m starting to think it’s more than just a coincidence… So to my mom and dad, happy 53rd anniversary!
-
Photo albums. We’ve kept them since before I was born, which is good for refreshing happy memories, remembering the odd places I fell asleep around the house and double-checking how old I was when I broke one of my arms. (It took a while to find the album that had some pictures—for the record, it was my left arm when I was 2.)

Old furniture. One of the items I use as a bookshelf back at my parents’ house is Dad’s old school desk. He used it as a kid, so that thing is way older than me. I treat my elders with respect: I use it for books that I read for English classes back in college. “Take care of my Shakespeare anthology, desk, he’s your elder, too!”
-
Family vacations. Some of those albums came from trips we’ve taken across the country, into Canada, up to Alaska, overseas… happy memories for all of us.

Being able to wish my parents a happy anniversary. I may not live in their basement anymore, but I can still let them know (via text message this year) how grateful I am for everything they’ve done for me over the last 40+ years. Love you guys!
Happy 10th anniversary of our broadcast premiere!
June 1st, 2005. A lifetime ago (assuming that you’re younger than ten years old). 14 faces appeared for the first time on the WB. Well, aside from all the promos that aired up until the premiere, but this was the first time the faces were on-screen for longer than thirty seconds during a commercial break.
To Eric and Cheryl, Joe and Erika, Brad and Krystal, Bill and Lauren, Richard and Mindi, Chuck and Caitilin, and of course Scarlet: Happy anniversary, everyone. It was an honor and a pleasure. Yes, at times, it was really unpleasant, but overall, an honor and a pleasure.
Beauty and the Geek is 10 years old
Officially, the first episode aired on June 1, 2005. However, today marks the 10th anniversary of the day the producers brought us through the front gates of the mansion and turned on the cameras.
My blog entry from January 6th that year was about getting the call that I’d be flying out to L.A. the following weekend, Jan. 13-16. Most people went home straight from the hotel on Sunday. Those of us who stayed got into a van the next morning and rode in many, many circles until we finally arrived at what would become our not-so-humble abode for the next two and a half weeks. Well, that long for the ones who made it to the final episode. The rest of us who lost in the elimination room left the house immediately (yes, immediately—I accidentally left my shaver in the bathroom and never saw it again), spent the night in a hotel, then flew home the next day.
One of my favorite memories from the first day was when they filmed us seven guys coming up the driveway in two Mini Coopers. They wanted me to drive the one in back, but I’ve never been any good with a stick shift, so they put Bill behind the wheel instead (he was the Vice-President of the Dukes of Hazzard Fan Club, so that seemed more appropriate anyway, if you ask me). I don’t recall which one of us was responsible—we were both sitting in front—but one of us totally screwed up one of the takes because we cranked up the radio as we headed up the driveway. The director did not approve.
Many, many fond memories… and some really shitty ones, too… but reflecting back on it after a decade, I’m still glad I was picked to be on the show. If nothing else, it taught me to look more carefully in the bathroom when I’m packing my stuff to go home.
Does anyone make clay belt buckles?
From what I’ve read online about anniversary themes, this year is pottery and leather and it seemed like an interesting combination.
Why is that relevant? Because today is June 1st, 2014. The 9th anniversary of the television debut of Beauty and the Geek. Yikes almighty.
2013 – 2005 = A lot of years
I know, I know, backdating entries is usually a no-no, but when a man misses an anniversary… I gotta cover my tracks somehow, so I’m “posting this on June 1st”.
Why was June 1st a big deal? Because it marked the 8th anniversary of the premiere of Beauty and the Geek.
The date didn’t involve a romantic relationship, so maybe it’s not quite as important. It still boggles my mind that everything happened so long ago, but the fact that I missed the anniversary isn’t quite as important. That’s probably a good thing since the traditional gifts for an eighth anniversary are bronze and pottery, neither of which would make a couch more comfortable if I’d been stuck sleeping on one for the next few weeks.
Happy 7th Anniversary!
If it weren’t for a reminder from Dave Olsen, winner of Season 4, I would have completely forgotten that today in 2005 was the television debut of Beauty and the Geek. Thus, I’d like to wish a happy anniversary to all my fellow beauties and geeks out there! … Okay, maybe happy anniversary to my fellow geeks and the beauties, too, but you get the idea.
