Everyone seems to be getting more comfortable with each other now, though Sam still sticks out like a sore thumb. He says the guys just “gotta do it” and he’s doing it more than the rest of them combined. There’s self-confidence and then there’s cocky—I can’t recall seeing any beauties being truly cocky before. I’m trying to put a finger on it… he’s a male beauty and he’s trying to put as much distance between him and the other guys as possible. I think before this point, there was always some degree of interaction between the beauties and the geeks. It wasn’t always harmonious—far from it—but it didn’t seem like anyone was trying to blow off so many people all at once. I don’t like it. Not at all.
So now Sam and Rebecca have made a love connection. Or would “lust connection” be more appropriate? Spending hours on end making out in the hallway… sheesh. The drama revolving around the relationship between those two is drawing way too much focus away from the rest of the show. There are challenges, make-out sessions and talk about make-out sessions. Oh yeah, and geeks wearing spandex body suits with pictures of internal organs on them, so the episode wasn’t a total wash.
I feel really bad for Nicole at this point. As a female geek, she’s surrounded by beautiful females and guys who she might get along with, but she’s probably too timid to do it much. And then they have the challenge in the Farmer’s Market and it turns out she’s not entirely in touch with her feminine side. Fuckin’-a…
Jen: “nasal” is the nose. “Nasal spray” goes into your nostril. “Nasal cavity” is the area behind the nose. “Nasal septum”… not in the neck. At least she didn’t confuse her sides like some of the beauties and end up wiping paint on her partner’s crotch.
I’d like to say something about the elimination ceremony. Picking couples is hard. Unless you have an obvious dislike for someone, you have to find another reason to pick a couple. If you don’t have a reason, you gotta make something up. You can’t just step up and say, “We weren’t sure, so we pulled out a dartboard and hit your picture.” And then when Erin got upset about being chosen, the host prompted her to speak up. What. The. Fuck. It’s not bad enough that you have to choose someone—he’s gonna encourage Erin to vent at him in front of the entire group?! That’s just not cool.
Speaking of that little incident, how could Erin accuse him of being a hypocrite? Will said she weren’t interacting with the others very much. She said she was, but apparently Will wasn’t (an essential element of being a hypocrite). Flash back about ten minutes and we saw Will reading Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” to a group of geeks and beauties. It might have seemed like power-tripping—he regretted that it looked that way when Rebecca brought it up—but it was still interaction with geeks and beauties. So much for hypocrisy…
And now two more people are gone and I still only know about half the couples’ names. Not to worry—the show will probably still be revolving around Sam and Rebecca making out during Episode 4. She’s gonna have to ditch him eventually to get more out of the overall experience—she said so herself in an interview—but there’s no way to tell when that’ll happen. And I wonder when she made that decision… they might play something during the second episode, but she may have said it during the sixth week. Maybe she’ll follow through with that decision by eventually sending Sam and Nicole to the Elimination Room herself. I can only imagine what that might do to the cocky look on Sam’s face.
And then they have the challenge in the Farmer’s Market and it turns out she’s not entirely in touch with her feminine side.
I was really surprised by what the Beauties were impressed with, gift-basket-wise. Jesse’s approach was “Girls like unicorns! Girls like stickers!” which just cracked me up, but then the Beauties were, apparently, really impressed by unicorns and stickers. I was seriously expecting Jesse to go down in flames, so I guess I – like Nicole – have a hard time predicting what Beauties will like. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a problem with being in touch with her “feminine side” so much as being in touch with Beauty Values.
Nicole is my favorite, but I don’t want Sam to win. Can we have a SURPRISE!!!1one partner-switch mid-season?
Sam’s cockyness may be a cover for his own insecurities. Some of the comments and reactions he’s made suggests he avoids the geeks because they expose his own lack of an intellect.
If you saw the reaction shot of him when Hollie was taking about geek stuff with the geeks, it looked to me more like insecure jealousy than cockyness.
