Geeks Speak!

People magazine. June 27th, 2005. The bachelor issue. Page 90. A cast photo of Beauty and the Geek. Little snippets of each guy’s phone interview. Stuff I said. Weird…

But I’m a tad frustrated—after reading everyone’s quotes, it feels like they did a real hack-job on mine. I’m sure you’ll all want to go out to the local newsstand and buy your own copy, so if you don’t want me to spoil it, move on to a different post. For the rest of you, follow me…

First off, I’m kinda ticked about my description: “landscaper and assistant Boy Scout master.” Nothing different than what’s been on the show, I suppose, but there have been people on the Internet chastising me for wasting my intelligence. (There are others chastising the show because I have no intelligence, but that’s beside the point.) There’s nothing about being a member of Mensa or having graduated from law school, just “landscaper and assistant Boy Scout master.”

Then there’s the two sentences they pulled out of everything I said: “The approach is still awkward, but I don’t feel as nervous about it. I played Dungeons & Dragons in high school, but I can interact with people.” Ugh.

That blurb definitely supports my being labeled as a geek. It also sounds like I didn’t get a whole lot out of the time I spent in the mansion. Trust me, things are different. If nothing else, I don’t feel nearly as nervous about buying women’s clothing. I’m more confident when deciding which outfits emphasize my better proportions… uh… never mind.

But what’s in the magazine is what I’m stuck with. At least I can feel better knowing that you know what People wrote about me is a load of crap. After all, playing Dungeons & Dragons requires interacting with other players…
